The Chairman of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, said today that the Porto Romano-Varna railway line is of strategic importance for the Corridor VIII project.

During his speech at the meeting of the Committee on European Affairs and Foreign Policy, Balla described the line as one of the greatest infrastructural and geopolitical achievements of recent decades for Albania.

"The Porto Romano-Varna railway connection is a major strategic achievement, not only for the transport of goods, but also for the mobility of military logistics in the context of new developments in Europe after February 2022.

The port of Porto Romano, in part, will serve as a NATO military port, directly connecting to the port of Varna. We are in the phase of concretizing the dream of many generations, giving life to a corridor of great economic, commercial and military importance for the country and the region.

"It is time for Albania to speak with one voice on national strategic projects. Regardless of whether you are in power or opposition, on such major issues there must be consensus and a common vision. Corridor VIII is a symbol of this European vision for integration, security and economic development," Balla said. /CNA
