Support for independent candidates a maneuver/ Berisha insists: The elections

DP leader Sali Berisha spoke about the elections in 5 municipalities where the SP won with a significant vote share, alongside its opponents, independent candidates.

In a statement to the media, Berisha continues to describe the elections as a farce.

"Once again, I would like to thank them sincerely for the courage they showed and concluded that Albania has only an electoral farce. Now, even globally, it is beginning to be recognized, an electoral autocracy, or authoritarian dictatorship. So they did the impossible, those intellectual citizens, of various professions, independent businessmen, but they concluded that there are no elections here, but there is a farce"

Asked if he boycotted these elections, Berisha replied:

"No, we didn't boycott them, if it was a boycott, we would say we boycotted them, you haven't heard me once call on citizens to vote or not. We supported and registered because of these, because the commissioners didn't benefit. There were some well-studied actions that showed that this government doesn't make choices. That the citizens have understood and cannot go to the elections."

Further asked if this was a maneuver to avoid responsibility for the loss, Berisha stated that the elections were a farce and that the farce must be fought.

"Absolutely not, but farce is farce. Farce must be fought, in farce there are no choices. What do I ask of you? I ask you to study the categories; what is authoritarian dictatorship and what is electoral autocracy. They are synonyms of each other. They are regimes in which power is concentrated in one hand or in one group. They are regimes that do not hold elections, that accept pluralism and suppress pluralism. As it is. This is classic.   

But unlike other electoral autocracies, this is a narcostate. Read the IMF's definition of a narcostate. According to the IMF, narcostates are states in which drug representatives have infiltrated all institutions. Tell me an institution where drug representatives are not. Tell me an institution. Do you know the name of an institution that does not have representatives of drug clans and cartels. Do you know any? You say exactly an 'x', it is not", declared Berisha./ CNA
