Constitutional Court's decision on Veliaj/Shehaj: Theater, farce, madness

The leader of the "Mundësia" Party, Agron Shehaj, has described the Constitutional Court's decision on Erion Veliaj as theater and farce.

Invited to the show Log, Agron Shehaj said that it was crazy to hear the DP be against the dismissal of Veliaj, that is, against the fact that someone arrested for corruption cannot run a municipality from prison.

"In addition to technical issues, here we are dealing with a reaction from the majority. In fact, in some cases it seems that reactions have also come from the opposition. The Constitutional Court's decision was sold as theater, as a clash with Rama, but in fact it is a farce. It was crazy to hear that the DP was against the dismissal of Veliaj, that is, against the fact that someone arrested for corruption cannot lead a municipality from prison. Do you understand how crazy this is? In which Western country does it happen that a mayor in prison, accused of theft and corruption, continues to be in office by court decision? And then, the Constitutional Court comes out and says that you have to keep him as mayor," said Shehaj.

Further, Shehaj commented on Rama's play in defense of Veliaj.

"Just a few days later, Rama, who also has Balluk under investigation, came out and said: 'You have to take Veliaj out'. Was it a joke? Was he joking? I read it as it was written. He said what I read." According to Shehaj, this shows an open clash between the executive branch and the judiciary, where Rama is also trying to control the Constitutional Court. "Here the dangerous clash between the executive branch, the courts and the judiciary has begun. Rama is using the Constitutional Court to protect his people. And the question is: where is the DP in all this? How is it possible that the DP is siding with Veliaj? This is unacceptable," he concluded.

As for Berisha sitting at a table with Rama for the Territorial and Electoral Affairs, according to Shehaj, it is political suicide.

"The opposition leader comes out and says, we will sit with Rama at the table. This is political suicide. Rama needs the help and support of the opposition, the DP, to preserve himself," he said./ CNA
