The shame of a prosecution/ From 45 years in prison for the Freedom Fighters!

We here in Tirana have other problems. But in The Hague, one of the most shameful acts of this century is being played out.

The Special Court's prosecution requested that the 4 former KLA commanders be sentenced to 45 years in prison each (practically life imprisonment, considering their age).

Even though it is only the prosecutor's request, this is terrible news for the history of a nation and a people that was protected from the most monstrous barbarity that was played out in Europe since Nazism, in the middle of the last century.

This is a political effort, sponsored by Belgrade and its friends, to criminalize a pure struggle of people who rose up to escape genocidal extermination.

Taking the side of murderers, rapists, arsonists, and looters is a stain on international justice.

If the former KLA leaders are convicted, then Europe and the UN must pay history's mercenaries to rewrite the history of the war in Kosovo, according to their version, making the victims criminals and the criminals victims.

But history cannot be retouched the way Google retouches photos of massacres, deleting what it calls "grim images."

The true story is there, documented and weighing like a stone on the necks of those who made it./ CNA
