The Democratic Party has announced the holding of the tenth protest with the objective of overthrowing the Rama 4 Government and establishing a Technical Government, to prepare the ground for holding early parliamentary elections, which, legally, are due to be held in 2029. On Monday's podium, amidst harsh tones towards the Government, Chairman Sali Berisha, reconfirmed in the leadership of the party through the "referendum", announced that the opposition will not retreat from its political positions and that the protests will continue in the coming weeks. With the aim of removing Edi Rama from power.
The reasons for a rotation of power, which would serve to advance good governance and the deviant democracy, are numerous. In this context, referring to the situation of the general political-institutional-economic-social crisis in which the country finds itself, the DP's request is right. As are the protests, which, although they started months ago, have produced nothing but "victims" of protesters and injured police officers, material damage to the prime minister's building and no results in achieving the objective.
According to official figures, only in the last protest, four protesters and about 11 police officers were injured, not counting the others from past protests. And yet, the protest strategy of the DP leadership continues to be flawed. Unchanged in the continuation of the protest method with rhetorical speeches, clashes with police in riot gear, fireworks and Molotov cocktails towards the buildings of the prime minister's office and parliament.
A routine that has not brought any effect in achieving the final objective. As the Prime Minister continues not to break the balance at any point of his governing behavior. While the participation of protesters is rare, from one protest to another, Edi Rama increases the European tours "in the service of Albania", as he claims, cynically anathemas and ignores the parliamentary interpellations of the opposition and is accountable only to himself. Edi Rama is accountable only to Edi Rama! This behavior is incredible for a Prime Minister elected by popular vote, but a bitter reality that rejects the spirit of democratic governance, as he claims.
To put it bluntly, because of this ritual without objective performance, instead of being a motivation to gather as many people as possible, the DP protests have turned into a demotivating monotony. They resemble going to a “picnic” with the difference that instead of emptying their bags of food, the participants confront the police, set off fireworks and Molotov cocktails, vent their anger with shouts of “Rama IK” and so on. While Berisha thanks the resistance fighters, the protesters and warns of the next protest, which, according to his tired optimization, will be the end of the Rama government, the next protest continues according to the same scheme. With the same participants and speakers, or without lectures, marching through the streets of Tirana, sometimes in silence and sometimes with a lot of noise, but without bringing any productivity to achieving the final result of overthrowing the Rama 4 Government and forming the Technical Government, with the sole objective of preparing for early elections.
That with the productivity of domestic policies, the misgovernance of the Rama 4 cabinet has reached its peak is evident in all spheres of the daily socio-economic life of Albanians.
That with the stereotype created to date, the opposition protests have not achieved the desired objective is also evident.
It is evident that, given the way they are organized, the opposition protests so far are not even going to bring about the overthrow of Edi Rama from his twelve-year reign.
Due to the way the opposition DP's protests have been organized, they not only fail to "smear the eye of the seagull" Edi Rama, but they also consume the protest itself and reduce citywide optimism. This is also shown by surveys, which uniformly indicate that 50-60% of participants assess the protest as weak, while 25-37% recommend a change in strategy.
In the conditions of a ruling majority that has formed a fist around personal interest and gain, to achieve the claimed objective, the opposition must focus on unstoppable protest. In the square below the Prime Minister's office, in the Parliament, or on a parliamentary hunger strike, this does not matter much./ CNA
