The story of the peasant who sold watermelons and the strategy of politics

An old man was selling watermelons today at the village market!

I was impressed by the price on the board placed above the watermelons:

1 watermelon = 300 ALL - 3 watermelons = 1,000 ALL.

Curiosity didn't let me leave and I sat a little aside, but at such a distance that I could hear what the old man was talking to the buyers...

A middle-aged man stopped and bought three watermelons for 300 Lek each, giving him a total of 900 Lek.

As he was leaving, he turns and says to the old man:

"I noticed that I just bought three watermelons for 300 Lek each and I paid 900 Lek and not 1,000, as it says on the board? Apparently, trade was not in your blood..."

The old man smiled. He turned to me who was listening and said:

"People are weird and funny! They always buy 3 watermelons instead of 1 and yet they insist on teaching me my job!"

The moral? Everyone thinks they are wiser than the old man, who was reminded that 3 watermelons did not make 1,000 Lek, but 900 Lek. Actually the smart one was the old man, who sold the watermelons in 1/3 of the time...

PS: So is politics!
