A monument has been placed in the city of Korça that has revived a darkened part of Albanian history, the bust of the intellectual Llazar Zai Fundo.
After 81 years since his tragic death, after a long silence and unjust political punishment, the figure of Fundo has returned more respected than ever. All Albanian media, from the largest to the most profiled, have reported on this event.
Top Channel presents Zai Fundo as one of the most prominent political and intellectual figures of 20th century Albania, a progressive thinker, an outspoken critic of dogmas and one of the most powerful voices of the European idea. In the square in front of the municipality, which today bears his name, the bust was placed as a return of history to its rightful place.
Top Channel emphasizes that researcher Aurel Plasari clearly formulates this event as a historical debt. According to him, Fundo was a direct victim of Enver Hoxha. Fundo's execution, which remains one of the darkest acts in history, according to Plasari, expresses the jealousy of the government, which is afraid of people with free thought.

Top Channel also brings the atmosphere of the memorial ceremony held at the Resurrection Cathedral in Korça, where his family, after decades of staying in the shadows, describe Fundo as a free thinker, whose ideals are today being understood and freed from the prejudices of the past.
Euronews Albania sees the installation of the bust as an act of historical justice for one of the most persecuted intellectuals of the last century.
Euronews Albania emphasizes Fundo's important role in opening up critical thought, in his European approach, and in the intellectual contribution that preceded the United Europe.

Euronews quotes historian Aurel Plasari as bringing up another important detail: in the order that Enver Hoxha gave for the murder of Fundo, the first question he wanted to ask was: Why did he go to Kosovo?
This detail, cited in several media outlets, clearly shows the political paranoia and jealousy of Hoxha's regime towards thinkers who dared to exceed the boundaries of their time. Euronews points out that the bust is strategically placed on the city's pedestrian street, near the house where Fundo was born, formed and began his path towards the democratic ideal.
Syri TV expands Fundo's international dimension, recalling that in 1941 he was among the intellectuals who contributed to the drafting of the Ventotene Manifesto, a document that later became the foundation of the concept of a United Europe.

For this reason, Syri TV portrays Fundo as one of the pioneers of pro-European thought, at a time when Albania was still under the shadow of authoritarian systems and heavy ideologies. Plasari, also quoted on Syri TV, calls the raising of the bust an added value for the memory of Korça and Albania, the return of a figure who was poisoned for decades by fabricated political narratives.
Syri TV also brings the touching words of the niece Elisaveta Fundo, who confesses that although she never knew her uncle, today she is learning more about the truths of a life of denial and the persecution that generations of the family have endured. She mentions Fundo's dream of a united Europe, and with emotion says that she hopes that Albania will realize what he believed in 80 years ago.
Vizion Plus offers an in-depth analysis of the historical significance of this event. Vizion Plus sees Fundo as a symbol of courage in the face of the violence of power and as a figure who should be a lesson for every generation.

Quoting Plasari again, it is emphasized that historical documents prove that Fundo was eliminated not because of the system in general, but as a personal victim of Enver Hoxha's hatred and fear. The placement of the bust near his house in the pedestrian zone of Korça is for Vizion Plus a restoration of historical justice for one of the most persecuted intellectuals of the century.
Iliria News says that Fundo is an emblematic figure of Albanian democratic thought. He is presented as an idealist, a free thinker, who faced the punishment of the system because of ideas that preceded his time. According to Iliria News, today Fundo is no longer covered by the darkness of former propaganda, he is being reborn in the collective Albanian thought.

The ceremonies, the bust, the words of scholars and the resurgence of his figure bring him out of the ashes of oblivion, making him part of our national identity again. Iliria News emphasizes that the revaluation of Fundo is more than an act of honor, it is a restoration of dignity for a figure who paid with his life for free speech and for his democratic worldview.
In all media, from Top Channel, to Euronews, Syri TV, Vizion Plus and Iliria News, in all their reports the same message resonates, Llazar Zai Fundo was an intellectual who was ahead of his time and who was condemned for his ideas and for his unparalleled courage. His bust in Korça is a monument not only to a man, but to freedom of thought. Today, Fundo's bust stands on the Korça pedestrian street as a strong reminder of intellectual bravery, a pillar of historical memory and an invitation to the younger generations to defend free thought with the same courage./ CNA
