World Philosophy Day/ A global call for reflection and dialogue

UNESCO marks World Philosophy Day every third Thursday of November, emphasizing its enduring importance in the development of human thought, in every culture and for every individual.

According to UNESCO, philosophy is an inspiring discipline and an indispensable daily practice that has the power to transform societies. It helps to discover the diversity of ideas and intellectual currents, promoting intercultural dialogue.

By stimulating critical thinking and reasoned debate, philosophy contributes to the creation of a more tolerant and respectful society. It offers valuable tools for understanding and addressing the challenges of our time, creating an intellectual basis for change.

On 20 November, UNESCO partners are invited to hold a variety of activities — from philosophical dialogues, debates and conferences, to seminars and cultural events — all focused on the annual theme of the day. These activities involve philosophers, scientists, students, journalists and the general public.

This year, UNESCO is organizing a meeting in Paris with Prof. Ingrid Robeyns, a Belgian-Dutch philosopher and economist known for her academic contributions. In her lecture, she will discuss the ethics of inequality and the values ??that should guide societies of the future, emphasizing the necessity of recontouring moral and institutional foundations in the face of growing inequality, the weakening of democracy, and the climate crisis. /CNA
