The United Nations Security Council is holding a meeting to discuss the developments of recent days in Venezuela.

The permanent delegation of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and other countries requested on Saturday that the UN Security Council convene after the military intervention in Venezuela overnight and the arrest of the country's president, Nicolas Maduro, by US forces.

Recall that on Saturday, US forces arrested Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro, who was taken into custody in New York.

US President Donald Trump announced that the United States will "govern" Venezuela until a "proper transition of power" and will exploit its vast oil reserves, following the overthrow of Maduro.

Maduro appeared before the court today where he will be heard on charges brought against him for drug and weapons offenses.
