Trump's warning to Colombia/ Gustavo Petro reacts: Stop slandering me

Colombian President Gustavo Petro has rejected statements by President Trump, who accused him of being a drug trafficker.

Trump warned of military action against Colombia, similar to what the US took against Venezuela, saying that Colombia is also very sick and run by a sick man who likes to produce cocaine and sell it to the United States. He has cocaine factories and he won't be doing that for much longer.

When asked if a Venezuela-like military intervention was in the works for Colombia, the Republican leader replied: "Sounds good to me."

"You know why? Because they kill a lot of people," Trump claimed.

Petro denied the charges, saying his name does not appear in court records.

"Stop slandering me, Mr. Trump," Petro said on social media. "This is not the way to threaten a Latin American president who emerged from armed conflict and then from the Colombian people's struggle for peace."

In a later post on social media on Sunday, Petro added that friends don't bomb.

Petro has sharply criticized the Trump administration's military action in the region and accused Washington of kidnapping Maduro without legal basis.

Colombia's Foreign Ministry called Mr. Trump's threats unacceptable interference and demanded respect./ CNA
