Trump, clear message to Rodriguez: You can pay a higher price than Maduro

President Donald Trump has warned Venezuela's new leader, Delcy Rodríguez, that she could pay a very high price, perhaps higher than Maduro, if she doesn't do what is right.

Speaking to "The Atlantic", the US president adds that for Venezuela, regime change, whatever you want to call it, is better than what you have now.

At her first cabinet meeting, Rodríguez, who is expected to be sworn in today, made a plea to Trump: "Our people and our region deserve peace and dialogue, not war."

Meanwhile, Maduro is expected to appear in a court in New York after being captured, along with his wife, during US airstrikes in the country on Saturday.

He faces drug trafficking charges. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said over the weekend that the US is at war against drug trafficking organizations, not Venezuela itself./ CNA
