Vu?i? announces official visit to China

Serbian President Aleksandar Vu?i? announced on December 12 that he is preparing for an official visit to China, where he will go soon.

He said in Nis, in southern Serbia, that he had spoken with China's ambassador to Belgrade, Li Ming, about preparations for this visit, reports the Beta news agency.

"For me, this will have an extraordinary and wonderful significance. I am grateful to the President of China, Xi Jinping, for the support he offers us in every aspect. This will be an official visit. I have been to China many times, but they have been working visits, while this will be an official visit ," Vu?i? said.

He stressed that “China is a sincere and steadfast friend of Serbia.” The Serbian president met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on September 4, and then asked China to help Serbia in the field of investment.

Vu?i? then paid a several-day visit to Beijing, where, at the invitation of the Chinese president, he participated in the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the victory in World War II.

In July 2024, the free trade agreement between Serbia and China entered into force, which provides for the elimination of customs tariffs on around 20,000 products.

The National Bank of Serbia said in April that, according to countries, the largest foreign direct investments in Serbia, based on available data for 2024, came from China.

The largest Chinese investors in Serbia are the Zijin company, which invested in RTB Bor in 2018, as well as the Hestil company, which purchased the Smederevo Steel Plant in 2016.

Due to the intensification of Serbia's cooperation with China since the Serbian Progressive Party came to power in 2012, official Belgrade has repeatedly received criticism and warnings from Brussels and Washington. /REL
