The "Architects" of Artificial Intelligence are named Time

Time magazine's Person of the Year for 2025 is not a single individual. Instead, the magazine has named the "architects" of artificial intelligence (AI) as the most influential figures of the year.

Nvidia boss Jensen Huang, Meta head Mark Zuckerberg, X owner Elon Musk, and "mother of artificial intelligence" Fei-Fei Li are among those featured on one of the magazine's two covers.

Experts say this highlights how quickly artificial intelligence and those behind it are reshaping society.

This comes as a boom in the technology, sparked by OpenAI's launch of ChatGPT in late 2022, continues apace. Its CEO, Sam Altman, said in September that its chatbot is used by about 800 million people each week.

Big tech firms are investing billions of dollars in artificial intelligence and the infrastructure behind it, in an effort to stay ahead of rivals.

This year there are two covers - one an artwork depicting the letters Artificial Intelligence surrounded by workers, and another a painting focused on the technology leaders themselves. /CNA
