Russian attacks continue/ Zelensky: 650 drones and 51 missiles targeted energy

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky again accused Moscow on Saturday of attacks on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, after more than 650 drones and 51 missiles caused damage to people and objects overnight.

"The main targets of these attacks were energy facilities," Zelensky wrote on social media.

"Russia's goal is to crush millions of Ukrainians as it stoops so low, launching missile strikes on peaceful cities on St. Nicholas Day ," he said, referring to December 6, the start of the Christmas period.

This date also symbolizes Ukrainian Army Day. Zelensky has repeated his call for more pressure on Russia to end the war that began in February 2022.

"The main building of the railway station in the town of Fastiv near Kiev has been completely burned down. The attack was meaningless from a military point of view," the Ukrainian president said.

According to him, the Dnipro, Zaporizhia, Odessa, Lviv and Mykolaiv regions have also been affected by the attacks. The Central Command of the Polish Army has activated its defense systems as a result of these attacks.

Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko wrote on Telegram that at least eight victims have been reported in Ukraine, three in the Kiev and Dnipropetrovsk regions and two in the Lviv region.

Power outages have been reported across much of Ukraine due to the attacks. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the latest strikes have targeted Ukraine's military-industrial sector and energy facilities in response to what it described as Ukrainian attacks on civilian targets in Russia. Ukraine has increased the number of attacks on Russian soil this year, with gas and oil facilities being the main targets.

The attacks were reported as Western diplomatic efforts to end the war have intensified. Russia currently controls about a fifth of Ukrainian territory, including regions in the Donbas, which consists of the Donetsk and Luhansk provinces.

The war in Ukraine began on February 24, 2022. Russian President Vladimir Putin calls the war a “special military operation” to demilitarize Ukraine. The West has responded to Russia by hitting the country’s economy with harsh sanctions. The war has killed thousands and displaced millions. /REL
