Mass shooting at a hotel in South Africa / 11 people killed

At least 11 people have been killed in a mass shooting at a hotel in South Africa, including children.

Meanwhile, fourteen others were injured when gunmen attacked the hotel in the Saulsville neighborhood, west of the capital, Pretoria.

"At least three unknown gunmen entered this hotel where a group of people were drinking and started shooting randomly," said police spokesman Brigadier Athlenda Mathe.

The reason for the shooting remains unknown, and it is reported that so far no one has been arrested in connection with the incident.

South Africa has one of the highest homicide rates in the world, with 45 people per 100,000 according to 2023-24 figures from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. /CNA
