Minister of Finance: Families in Kosovo have 4.69 billion euros saved

Acting Minister of Finance, Hekuran Murati, has published data from the Central Bank of Kosovo according to which deposits and savings of Kosovo families in banks have reached record levels.

While Kosovo's economy faces high prices and political uncertainty, citizens' savings in banks have reached record figures.

According to the acting Minister of Finance, Hekuran Murati, household deposits at the end of October reached a value of 4.69 billion euros, reflecting a significant increase in the last five years.

According to Murat, compared to the same month five years ago, this represents an increase of 2.12 billion euros, or 82.5 percent.

He emphasizes that in the period 2020–2025, the rate of growth in savings has been more than twice as high as in the five-year period of previous governments, when growth was only 40.8 percent.

"Deposits and savings of Kosovar households in banks at the end of October reached 4.69 billion euros, according to official data from the CBK. This represents an increase of 2.12 billion euros, or 82.5%, compared to October 5 years ago when deposits and savings of households in Kosovo were 2.57 billion euros."

For comparison, in the 5-year period before the Kurti Government, household deposits and savings had increased by only 745 million euros, or 40.8%. So in the period 2020-2025, the growth of money in banks (deposits/savings) for households in Kosovo has been more than 2-fold faster than the growth of money in banks during the 5-year period of previous governments (82.5% vs 40.8%).

His statements follow similar comments from the acting Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Liza Gashi, who recently said that Kosovo citizens have "never had more money" than they do today.

She emphasized that despite rising prices, the data shows an improvement in financial well-being.

"The fact is that the citizen of Kosovo has more money than 10 years ago. Today we also have citizens who are returning from the diaspora, due to progress and better conditions."

According to official data from the Central Bank of Kosovo, in addition to the increase in savings, the level of loans has also reached high figures.

By the end of October 2025, the total amount of loans granted by banks reached 6.45 billion euros, of which about 2.7 billion euros were loans taken out by households.

This shows that while a large portion of citizens are saving more, many others are using loans for housing, businesses or consumption, keeping the banking sector among the most active in the region./ Monitor Magazine
