Ukraine prepares new peace plan, Zelensky rules out surrender of territory

Ukraine is finalizing a revised peace plan that is expected to be presented to the White House as Kiev tries to avoid any pressure for territorial concessions to Russia. President Volodymyr Zelensky declared on Monday that it has no right, neither legal nor moral, to accept the surrender of Ukrainian land.

His comments came during meetings with European and NATO leaders, part of a coordinated effort to persuade the US not to support a peace settlement that could leave Ukraine vulnerable to future Russian aggression.

Meanwhile, the northwestern city of Sumy was left without electricity overnight after a Russian drone attack. The local governor reported that over a dozen drones had hit power infrastructure, although there were no casualties.

Zelensky's diplomatic tour of Europe follows several days of intense negotiations between the US and Ukrainian teams, which failed to produce a draft agreement acceptable to Kiev. The Ukrainian chief negotiator, Rustem Umerov, announced that he would brief the president on the details of direct talks between the US and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to the AFP agency, Zelensky said Kiev could submit a new peace proposal to Washington on Tuesday.

“Russia insists that we give up territories, but we don’t want to give up anything,” he declared. “We have no legal right to do this, according to Ukrainian law, our constitution, and international law. And we have no moral right.”

Zelensky has long stressed that any change to Ukraine's borders would have to be approved only through a popular referendum./ CNA
