12-year-old dies after being hit by propeller on migrant boat off Greek island

A 12-year-old boy has died after being hit by a boat propeller as he approached the Greek island of Samos.

The serious incident reported in the Greek media is the latest, after at least 18 migrants drowned over the weekend when their boat capsized off the southern coast of Crete.

The coast guard discovered the boy's body in the Svala area of ??Samos after 37 other migrants washed ashore. An ambulance took the body to the island's hospital, local media reported.

Authorities are investigating the incident, which occurred when the boy was hit by the propeller of the boat transporting migrants to the island.

This incident is among the most serious that has been happening recently with boats overflowing with migrants, who are trying to cross to Europe through the Mediterranean Sea. /CNA
