Trump: Zelensky not ready to sign US-backed peace deal

US President Donald Trump has shared some comments on the current state of peace negotiations in Ukraine.  

Trump said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is not ready to sign a US-drafted peace proposal aimed at ending the war with Russia.

Trump criticized Zelensky after U.S. and Ukrainian negotiators wrapped up three days of talks on Saturday aimed at narrowing differences over the U.S. administration's proposal. But in a briefing with reporters Sunday evening, Trump suggested the Ukrainian leader was obstructing progress in the talks.

"I'm a little disappointed that President Zelensky hasn't read the proposal yet, which was a few hours ago. His people like it, but he doesn't. Russia, I believe, agrees with it, but I'm not sure Zelensky agrees with it. His people love it. But he's not ready," Trump said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has not publicly expressed his approval of the White House plan. In fact, Putin last week said that aspects of Trump's proposal were unworkable, even though the original draft heavily favored Moscow. /CNA
