Ceremony for artists/ President Trump presents Kennedy Center Honors

US President Donald Trump presented the Kennedy Center Honors, after handing out medals to the 2025 honorees during a ceremony in the Oval Office, praising them as "legendary in many ways."

Trump became the first president to introduce instead of sitting in a seat at the Opera House to open the show.

This year's winners were actor Sylvester Stallone, singers Gloria Gaynor and George Strait, rock band Kiss and actor-singer Michael Crawford.

Trump said they were among the greatest artists and actors, performers, musicians, singers, composers to ever walk the face of the Earth.

"But no, I think you're just going to be loose and not much to prepare. You know what you have to be? You have to be yourself," Trump said.

Since returning to office in January, Trump has transformed the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, which is named after a Democratic predecessor, into a focal point in a broader attack on what he has called a "smart" anti-American culture./CNA
