After 120 million euro fine, Elon Musk's "X" bans European

Elon Musk-owned "X" platform has blocked the European Commission from using its advertising services, just days after the EU imposed a €120 million fine on the social network for violating the rules of the Digital Services Act (DSA).

Nikita Bier, a senior executive at X, accused the Commission of attempting to take advantage of an exploit in the advertising system to boost the reach of a post announcing the fine against the platform. “Apparently, you believe the rules do not apply to your account. Your advertising account has been closed,” Bier said.

A European Commission spokesperson responded by saying that the institution uses all platforms in good faith and expects the tools offered by the platforms themselves to comply with their rules and conditions.

Historic fine for the blue "X" sign

The fine imposed on Friday was described by the Commission as the first of its kind by the DSA. The regulator argued that the blue "X" badge system was deceptive, as the company did not actually verify users, exposing them to fraud and impersonation.

The EU also accused the platform of a lack of transparency in advertising and failure to fulfill its obligation to give researchers access to important public data. "X" has 60 days to respond to the requests, otherwise it risks new penalties.

After the fine, Elon Musk reacted sharply on his platform, writing that "the EU should be abolished," while also reposting comments that compared the regulator's action to "fascism."/ CNA
