Trump to CNN: US military is destroying Iran, big wave hasn't come yet

US President Donald Trump today shared some details and positions regarding the situation in the Middle East.

In a nine-minute phone interview with CNN's Jake Tapper, the president said the US military is destroying Iran, but the "big wave" has not yet come.

"We're destroying them. I think it's going very well. It's very powerful. We have the best military in the world and we're using it," Trump said.

Trump addressed a wide range of topics in the interview, including the expected duration of the conflict, his surprise at Iran's widespread retaliation and the country's expected succession plan.

Asked if the US is doing more beyond military strikes to help the Iranian people regain control of their country from the regime, Trump said yes.

 "Right now we want everyone to stay inside. It's not safe there. We haven't even started hitting them hard. The big wave hasn't even happened. The big one is coming soon," the president said.

Trump said that so far, the biggest surprise has been Iran's attacks against Arab countries in the region: Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. /CNA
