Trump: I'm not ready for a deal with Iran

United States President Donald Trump has stated that he is not yet ready to reach a deal with Iran, despite Tehran's stated desire for one.

In a telephone interview with the American network NBC News on Saturday, Trump said that current conditions are not yet favorable enough for the US.

He declined to specify what those conditions are, but stressed that an important part of any potential deal would be Iran's commitment to abandoning any nuclear ambitions.

During the interview, Trump also added that several countries have pledged to help secure the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic route for global oil shipping, although he did not mention their names.

The US president also said the US had completely destroyed Kharg Island, a key hub for Iranian oil exports. He added that the target could be hit again if necessary.

Trump also downplayed concerns about rising oil prices, saying global supplies are sufficient.

"There's a lot of oil and gas. There's a lot there, but they're getting a little blocked. They'll be released very soon," he said./ CNA
