Trump threatens Iran/Oil prices fall

Ten days since the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran, the impact of the conflict has expanded significantly, with Iran retaliating, Israel striking Lebanon, and oil prices rising sharply.

Iranian officials have chosen the son of the late supreme leader as his successor, but Trump has signaled that Mojtaba Khamenei does not have his support. Earlier, US President Donald Trump said he wanted to have a say in choosing Iran's new leader.

Speaking in Florida on Monday, Trump said that although the US has had many military victories in Iran and the war will end soon, the US will go further.

"We have already won in many ways, but we have not won enough," Trump told Republican lawmakers.

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps has responded to Trump's comments that the war in Iran will end soon, saying they will determine the end of the war.

"Tehran will not allow a single liter of oil to be exported from the region if US and Israeli attacks continue," the IRGC says, according to Reuters.

Trump describes the war as a deviation from his policy priorities, but says it is important because he believes Iran would attack the US and Israel first.

However, the US president acknowledges the economic and social impacts of the war on the country, saying that falling stocks will rise again soon and that the deaths of American personnel were inevitable.

His comments come on the same day that Trump had a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin and as the US military publicly identified the seventh death of a service member since the war began late last month. The total US death toll has risen to eight.

Across the Middle East, deaths have also been reported in Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Lebanon. The Israeli military has continued to launch attacks inside Iran.

The UK Chancellor says inflation is likely to rise in Britain, as the country signals support for the release of oil reserves by G7 member nations to help cope with rising oil prices.

French President Emmanuel Macron has been in Cyprus. The United Kingdom and other European countries have announced they are sending more military equipment to Europe's southern front.

And recently, players from the Iranian women's national football team currently in Australia have been granted humanitarian visas to stay./ CNA
