"Regimes don't change with bombings alone"/ Macron on the war in

French President Emmanuel Macron has said the war against Iran will last for many weeks. Speaking from the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, Macron said that bombing is not enough to change the character of the Iranian regime.

"I believe that nothing indicates that this war will end in the coming days. I do not believe that profound changes of the regime or of political systems can be achieved only through bombing. However, if the objective is to neutralize ballistic capabilities or a navy, this can be done in a few weeks," Macron said.

Regarding fuel prices, Macron said that the war and the increases it brings will also be felt in natural gas prices in the coming weeks, beyond gas stations.

Macron also said his country would deploy eight frigates, two amphibious helicopter carriers and the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle to the eastern Mediterranean and the Red Sea as a defensive measure.

"Our objective is to maintain a strong defensive stance, standing alongside all countries attacked by Iran in its retaliation, to ensure our credibility and contribute to regional de-escalation," Macron said.

Speaking later to troops aboard the Charles de Gaulle, the president said France would also work to preserve freedom of navigation and potentially restore movement in the Strait of Hormuz.

"We are not participating in an ongoing conflict and we are acting within this framework. Your presence here today shows the strength of France, that of a power for balance and peace alongside its friends," he said. /CNA
