"Appointing Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran's leader was a big mistake"/ Trump indicates whether the US will take measures

United States President Donald Trump said today that the appointment of Ali Khamenei's son, Mojtaba Khamenei, as the next supreme leader is a "big mistake."

"I think they made a big mistake. I don't know if it's going to last ," Trump said in an interview.

Before his appointment was announced, the US president had said that the son of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei would be an unacceptable choice and that Iran's new leader would not last long without his approval.

When asked what action the US might take regarding the appointment, he replied curtly that he would not say now. Trump was also asked about reports of a possible deployment of US troops to Iran.

"We haven't made any decisions on this. We're not even close to it ," the US president said. /CNA
