Situation in the Middle East/ Croatia takes measures to curb the increase in oil

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic announced today the imposition of a limit on gasoline and diesel prices in Croatia, as the war in the Middle East has caused problems for oil supplies around the world.

"Today, we will take measures to limit the increase in energy prices and protect the living standards of Croatian citizens," the prime minister said during an emergency cabinet meeting.

Plenkovic also said his government would impose a price cap starting Tuesday, making Croatia one of the first European Union countries to try to curb rising fuel prices.

The price cap for oil will be set at 1.55 euros, avoiding an increase that would take the price to 1.72 euros. The price cap for gasoline will remain at 1.50 euros, against a possible increase to 1.55 euros.

Oil prices today exceeded $ 100 per barrel for the first time since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in late February 2022, as they were boosted by the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which is reviving concerns about global oil supplies. /CNA
