Tensions in the Middle East/ US temporarily closes consulate in southern Turkey

The United States has decided to temporarily close or reduce its operations at its consulate in southern Turkey, specifically in the city of Adana.

This is part of security precautions due to increased tensions in the Middle East, including the conflict between the US, Israel and Iran, which has led to warnings of potential danger to diplomatic personnel and Americans in the region.

The US State Department has asked that non-essential personnel leave the consulate in southern Turkey as a security precaution.

This comes at the same time as heightened security warnings and instructions for Americans to avoid travel to southeastern Turkey, due to the risk of demonstrations or anti-American backlash that could arise as a result of the regional conflict. /CNA
