The death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Hussein Khamenei has sparked discussions about his vast personal wealth. According to some estimates, his fortune could reach $100–200 billion, placing him among the richest people in the world.

Although he publicly presented himself as a leader with a simple lifestyle who lived in a modest house of about 60 square meters, journalistic investigations suggest that he controlled a large financial network with luxury properties and investments in several countries, including Spain and the United Kingdom.

According to reports, his potential fortune of $100–200 billion is more than double Iran's annual oil exports in 2025 and nearly half of the country's GDP, which was around $434 billion.

Meanwhile, Iran's economy faces major problems, such as inflation of around 40% per year, more than 1/3 of the population below the poverty line, high youth unemployment (around 20%), an energy crisis and water shortages in some areas.

Khamenei's family, according to foreign media, had an international investment network, with tourist properties and golf courses in Mallorca, investments in the real estate market in Spain, and financial connections and deposits in Venezuela, Syria and the United Arab Emirates. /CNA
