US President Donald Trump has praised Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni as a great leader who is willing to help the US and Israel in their war with Iran. In a phone call with Corriere della Sera, the US president said that Italy was doing its best to help.
"I love Italy. I think Meloni is a great leader. She always tries to help, she's a great leader and a friend of mine ," Trump reportedly said of Meloni.
The praise for Meloni comes after Trump criticized British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer on his “Social Truth” account, saying: “We don’t need people joining wars after we’ve already won!”
Meloni said Thursday that Italy is planning to send air defense assistance to Gulf countries. An Italian navy ship is preparing to sail to Cyprus, a navy spokesman said Friday, as part of a joint European mission to protect the island after it came under Iranian fire. /CNA
