Tragedy at Swiss ski resort/ 116 injured identified

All 116 people injured in a massive fire that ripped through a Swiss ski resort have been identified by authorities. 40 people, aged between 14 and 39, died in the fire in Crans-Montana on New Year's Eve.

While the victims had been identified earlier, work had also begun to determine who the injured were, some of whom remain in critical condition.

Swiss police confirmed on Monday that 83 people remained in hospital, with the injured being from at least 12 different nationalities. Most of the injured suffered severe burns, which in some cases meant they could not be identified.

Investigations so far have revealed that fireworks in champagne bottles held too close to the ceiling are the likely cause of the flames.

Many of the dead and missing are teenagers. The French couple who own the bar, identified by media as Jacques and Jessica Moretti, are suspected of manslaughter, negligent bodily harm and negligent arson. /CNA
