Tragedy in Switzerland/ 5 skiers found dead near Adlergletscher glacier

Five skiers have been found dead on a Swiss mountain near the luxury ski resort of Zermatt after emergency services were alerted to an incident at an altitude of 4,000 metres, the Valais cantonal prosecutor's office confirmed.

Two climbers climbing Ribfisorn raised the alarm yesterday afternoon after noticing the presence of ski boots at the foot of the peak, but without encountering their owners.

Skiers notified authorities of the accident on the slopes of Mount Rimpfischhorn, east of Zermatt and south of the village of Saas Fee.

Rescue teams found the bodies near the Adlergletscher glacier after air and ground searches in the area in southwestern Switzerland near the border with Italy./CNA
