Knife attack at Hamburg train station: 12 people injured

Twelve people were injured in a knife attack at the main train station in the northern German city of Hamburg on Friday, local police and the fire department confirmed. 

"According to initial information, a person injured several people with a knife at the main train station," Hamburg police said in a post on 'X'.

A spokesman for the Hamburg fire department told AFP that 12 people had been injured and that some of the injuries were life-threatening.

Photos on social media show crowds gathered outside the station building, while emergency service vehicles are at the scene.

According to local broadcaster NDR, the Hamburg fire department said three people were in critical condition, three others were seriously injured and six had minor injuries.

This brings the total number of reported casualties to 12. Local reports say the attack took place on platforms 13 and 14 of the main train station./CNA
