The European Union's foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, has kicked off her announced tour of the Balkans and today held the first part of the meetings in Serbia. From Belgrade, Kallas said that as a candidate for membership, Serbia faces a "strategic choice" of direction, just weeks after Serbian President Aleksandar Vu?i? defied EU warnings and took part in Russia's Victory Day parade in Moscow.

"Serbia faces a strategic and geostrategic choice, where it wants to be. Serbia's European future depends on the values ??it chooses to support," said Kaja Kallas during her visit to Belgrade.

Vu?i?'s presence in Moscow for the May 9 parade was widely condemned in Brussels, with EU officials warning that such actions seriously jeopardize Serbia's path to the EU. Officials said it was inappropriate for Vu?i? to stand shoulder to shoulder with Russian President Vladimir Putin, given Russia's bloody invasion of Ukraine.

As reported by European media, Kallas said she discussed the visit with Vu?i?.
