30% tariffs from the US/ Von der Leyen reacts: We remain ready to continue

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has reacted to US President Donald Trump's decision to impose 30% tariffs on European products imported into the US, warning that this action will seriously disrupt transatlantic supply chains and damage the economy on both sides of the Atlantic.

In an official statement, Von der Leyen stressed that the European Union is ready to take the necessary measures to protect its interests in the event that the tariffs come into effect from August 1.

Von der Leyen further stated that the EU has always been in favor of dialogue and will continue to work to reach an agreement by August 1.

 

“ Imposing 30% tariffs on EU exports would disrupt key transatlantic supply chains, to the detriment of businesses, consumers on both sides of the Atlantic. Few economies in the world are as open and fair in their trade practices as the European Union. We remain ready to continue working towards an agreement by August 1. At the same time, we will take all necessary measures to protect the EU’s interests, including taking proportionate countermeasures if necessary ,” Von der Leyen said./ CNA
