Trump-Putin/Zelensky meeting: I very much hope that an agreement will be reached

After a phone call with Trump and European leaders, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said today that the top priority for both Wednesday's talks and Friday's summit is a ceasefire, a sentiment with which, according to Zelensky, Trump agreed.

The reaction comes just two days before a historic meeting in Alaska between US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, a virtual summit initiated by the leaders of Ukraine and Germany.

"We talked about a ceasefire today. President Trump said that this is one of his priorities in the conversation with President Putin. I very much hope that an agreement will be reached, because so far all the talks held with Putin have ended only with the increase of his military presence, the intensification of attacks," Zelensky said.

Zelensky made the comments after the call during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. /CNA
