US extends suspension of tariffs on China for another 90 days

US President Donald Trump has extended his tariff truce against China for another 90 days, according to US media.

Trump reportedly signed an executive order today, just hours before the latest deal between the world's two largest economies was set to expire, delaying the implementation of his sweeping tariffs by the same length of time they were initially suspended.

The previous agreement was scheduled to expire shortly after midnight Tuesday.

The new order will prevent tariffs on Chinese goods entering the United States from rising by up to 145%.

Earlier in the day, Beijing expressed hope that Washington would seek positive trade results on Monday, the last day of a 90-day easing of tensions, which was reached between the two countries in May. /CNA
