Meeting with Rutte/ Osmani: It is time for Kosovo to be in NATO

President Vjosa Osmani said today that it is time for Kosovo to have its place in NATO.

At the press conference held after the meeting with NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte, this Tuesday in Pristina, Osmani said that Kosovo's interest in membership in the Alliance is a strategic necessity for peace in the region and the continent.

"Our strategic goal of NATO membership is not simply our national interest, but also a strategic necessity for peace in the region and throughout the European continent. We want to deepen our partnership with NATO by developing our army, the Kosovo Security Force, into a modern, professional and interoperable force with partner forces in the service of peace, stability and security everywhere in the world," said Osmani.

Osmani declared during the conference that Kosovo is the country with the most pro-NATO sentiment in the world, and that the citizens of this country will be eternally grateful for the decisive contribution of this alliance to the country's freedom.

She added that Kosovo has already reached NATO's target of 2 percent defense spending.

"Kosovo will soon start producing ammunition and drones. On this journey, we are very aware of the challenges we face... Belgrade is aiming to destabilize not only Kosovo but all of Europe. The presence of NATO troops in Kosovo is not just a guarantee of our security. We join your repeated calls for responsibility regarding the attack on KFOR soldiers. Let us have the right time to strengthen Kosovo's presence and its equipment. Let the Alliance contribute as a responsible member," Osmani said. /CNA
