Ahead of crucial talks with the US, Zelensky holds meetings in Saudi Arabia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will meet today with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, a day before crucial talks between Ukrainian and American officials in Jeddah on ending the war with Russia.

US and Ukrainian officials are meeting in Saudi Arabia to outline a framework for a ceasefire with Russia and a peace deal, President Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff confirmed to reporters.

The meeting signals a thaw in relations between the US and Ukraine, following a confrontation in the Oval Office between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

"We are now in discussions to coordinate a meeting with the Ukrainians in Riyadh or even potentially in Jeddah. So the city is moving a little bit, but it will be Saudi Arabia. And I think the idea is to reach a framework for a peace agreement and an initial ceasefire as well," Witkoff said.

Zelensky has sought to repair relations with Trump after the Oval Office debate, the fallout from which included Trump cutting off military aid to Ukraine and cutting off intelligence sharing with the Ukrainians, damaging Kiev's ability to strike high-value Russian targets./ CNA
