Chaos in Bucharest/ Protests after the decision on the candidate in the Romanian elections

Chaos gripped the Romanian capital as supporters of Calin Georgescu protested against the electoral body's decision to reject his candidacy in the repeat presidential election.

Protests erupted across Bucharest after the electoral body rejected the candidacy of ultranationalist Calin Georgescu for a repeat of Romania's presidential election.

Georgescu, 62, won the first round last year before the election was annulled over suspected Russian interference.

The rejection of his offer sparked outrage, with hundreds of supporters gathering outside the headquarters of the Central Election Bureau, chanting, throwing objects and setting a bush on fire.

The first round of the presidential election repeat is scheduled for May 4. /CNA
