Confirmed by Rubio/ 83% of USAID programs to be cut

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed today that after a six-month review, the government has decided to officially cancel 83% of programs at the United States Agency for International Development, otherwise known as USAID.

After a detailed review and consultation with Congress, the US government is officially canceling 83% of USAID programs. This means canceling 5,200 contracts that have spent tens of billions of dollars on projects. According to him, they do not meet the national interests of the country and in some cases have even caused damage.

"For the 5,200 contracts that have now been canceled, tens of billions of dollars in ways that did not serve (and in some cases harmed) the essential national interests of the United States," Rubio said in a post on X, adding that it was decided in consultation with Congress to administer about 1,000 of the remaining programs under the US State Department "more effectively."

Rubio thanked his staff and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) for this historic reform, after US President Donald Trump previously confirmed that there is no clash between Rubio and DOGE head Elon Musk./CNA
