Sanctions against Kosovo/LDK, special letter to Von der Leyen

The Democratic League of Kosovo has sent a letter to the President of the European Commission, Von Der Leyen, requesting the lifting of sanctions on Kosovo.

The Chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, has called for the immediate lifting of the European Union's punitive measures against the Republic of Kosovo, describing them as unjustified and inappropriate with the current political and institutional developments in the country.

In the announcement published by the Democratic League's press office, it is stated that the letter emphasizes that maintaining sanctions on the Republic of Kosovo is producing direct consequences for its citizens and is damaging the functioning of state institutions.

LDK adds that the main criterion set by the European Union, namely the transfer of local government to the northern municipalities, has already been met.

"These measures have directly harmed Kosovo and its citizens, not politicians. As a result, a considerable number of development projects and important investments have remained blocked and unrealized, hindering economic development and improving public services," the LDK assesses in the letter.

In this context, the Democratic League of Kosovo calls on the European Union to make a decision to completely lift punitive measures against Kosovo, in accordance with the principles of justice, proportionality and partnership. /CNA
