Germany's unemployment rate rose by 0.2 percent to 5.7 percent, or 2.617 million unemployed, in July, Germany's Federal Employment Agency announced on Tuesday.
This means that this month there are 62,000 more people unemployed than in June, and 147,000 more than a year ago, the agency said.
" With the beginning of the summer vacation, unemployment increased in July", said the head of the agency, Andrea Nahles. "Employment is growing, but growth is clearly losing momentum."
Unemployment usually rises in July because training contracts end and companies hire fewer people during the holiday season, among other reasons.
Even without the Ukrainian refugees, unemployment would have risen due to the weak economy, according to the agency. For this article's statistics, the agency estimated the numbers that were available as of July 12.
Demand for employment continues to be limited, Nahles said.
In July, 772,000 job vacancies were registered with the Federal Employment Agency, 108,000 less than a year ago.
The number of workers paying social security contributions in Germany increased by 253,000, or 34.7 million in May, compared to the month of the previous year.
However, this increase came only from foreign workers, according to the agency./REL
