Russian missiles attack Kharkiv/ 10 people die, including children

Russian missile strikes have targeted Kharkiv, Ukraine's second largest city, killing at least 10 people.

The regional governor, Oleh Syniehubov, said two children were among the victims, adding that the ballistic missile damaged a five-story residential building. More than 15 people, including three minors, were also injured in the attack.

Russia launched a barrage of drones and missiles overnight. Across the city, 19 residential buildings, power lines, commercial and administrative facilities, and cars were also damaged by Russian strikes.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia had launched 480 drones and 29 missiles targeting vital infrastructure across the country.

He said most of the drones were Shaheds, a type of drone designed by Iran that Russia has used to repeatedly strike Ukraine since the start of its full-scale invasion four years ago. Zelenskyy said Russia had targeted energy facilities in the Kyiv, Khmelnytskyi and Chernivtsi regions, as well as the railway in the Zhytomyr region.

"There must be a response from partners to these savage attacks against life. Russia has not abandoned its efforts to destroy Ukraine's residential and critical infrastructure, and therefore support must continue," Zelensky said on Telegram, while calling on Ukraine's partners to continue air defense and weapons supplies.

Russia has launched its large-scale domestic production of Shahed drones, which have played a prominent role in Iran's response to the US-Israeli attacks, which began a week ago. /CNA
