"There will be no unconditional surrender"/ Iran's president

Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian declared on Saturday that his country will never surrender to international pressure, as tensions with Israel continue to escalate and the Iranian military has exchanged attacks with the Jewish state, also hitting several Gulf countries with retaliatory fire.

Pezeshkian made the remarks in a speech broadcast on Iranian state television, less than a day after United States President Donald Trump said his administration would not negotiate with Tehran without "unconditional surrender."

"They will take their dreams of our unconditional surrender with them to the grave," Pezeshkian said during the speech.

The political situation in Iran has become even more complicated after the assassination of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei a week ago. Currently, the country's power is temporarily led by a three-member leadership council, which will maintain control until his successor is appointed.

The council includes President Masoud Pezeshkian, considered a relatively more moderate figure, the hardline head of the judiciary Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, and senior cleric Alireza Arafi.

Meanwhile, clashes between Iran and Israel continue to heighten tensions in the region, adding to fears of a broader escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.

Further, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian apologized to neighboring countries, saying the leadership council told the armed forces to stop attacks on their neighbors unless any attack on Iran came from those countries./ CNA
