Trump: I don't care if Iran has democracy, as long as it has leadership friendly to the US

US President Donald Trump stated that the form of the political regime in Iran is not the main issue for the US, as long as the country has a leadership that is friendly to American interests.

The statement was made at a very tense moment in the Middle East, following the escalation of the conflict between the US, Israel and Iran.

Trump said that the US does not need Iran to become a democracy if the future leadership is willing to cooperate with the West and stop the conflicts.

Trump's statements are related to the situation that arose after the death of Iran's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a joint US-Israeli attack during the escalation of the conflict in the region.

His death has caused a major political crisis and power struggle in Iran, as the country must elect a new supreme leader.

Trump has also said that the US should have a role in the process of selecting the new leadership in Iran to avoid a new leader pursuing the same hostile policy towards the West. /CNA
