Pro-Palestinian protest in London/ Activist Greta Thunberg arrested

British police arrested Swedish activist Greta Thunberg today during a pro-Palestine protest in London, the British organization "Prisoners for Palestine" announced.

The British government has declared the Palestine Action organization a terrorist group. A London police spokesman said two more people had been arrested for throwing red paint at a building.

Prisoners for Palestine, which supports several imprisoned activists on hunger strike, said the building was targeted because it was used by an insurance company that, according to the activists, provided services to the British branch of the Israeli defense equipment company Elbit Systems.

Greta Thunberg, 22, became widely known in 2018 when she began weekly climate protests in front of the Swedish parliament.

Last year she was acquitted of public order charges in Britain after a judge ruled that police did not have the authority to arrest her at a previous protest in London.

She was also arrested along with 478 other people and deported from Israel in October after taking part in an activist ship mission, the Global Sumud Flotilla, that attempted to reach Gaza with humanitarian aid. /CNA
