Peace talks from the US/ Zelensky optimistic: Most of Kiev's demands have been met

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed optimism about the US-led peace talks, noting that most of Kiev's demands have been met.

Speaking to reporters in Kiev, the Ukrainian leader described the peace agreement as quite strong at this stage, with almost 90% of its demands included in the draft agreement.

The Ukrainian leader acknowledged that compromises on both sides will be necessary.

"There are some things that we are probably not ready for, and I'm sure there are things that the Russians are not ready for either," Zelensky added.

Washington has repeatedly debated talks with Kiev and Moscow in an attempt to reach a peace deal to end the nearly four-year war in Ukraine.

On Sunday, US special envoy Steve Witkoff called a meeting with Ukrainian and European representatives, as well as separate talks with Russian negotiators, productive and constructive. /CNA
