Iran's president warns: Tehran's nuclear facilities will be rebuilt

Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian vowed on Sunday to rebuild Tehran's damaged nuclear facilities, which were targeted in June in precision US strikes, as Washington accused Iran of trying to develop and acquire nuclear weapons.

Pezeshkian's announcement comes in an apparent challenge to US President Donald Trump, who in the days following his country's attacks on Iran threatened to bomb the country again if it tried to restart its deterrent program.

Pezeshkian renewed these claims, speaking before a meeting with senior nuclear industry executives during a visit to the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran.

"All these programs are for solving people's problems, for treating diseases and for the health of society. Science is in the minds of our scientists and there will be no problem with the destruction of buildings and factories, we will build again and with more energy," the Iranian president said.

The United States attacked Iran's nuclear facilities in June during the 12-day war with Israel, which Washington and Israel say was part of a deliberate program to secure nuclear warheads.

The US dropped 14 GBU-57 MOPs, approximately 14,000 kilograms each, known as bunker buster bombs, on Tehran's three main nuclear facilities, Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan, in a covert operation codenamed "Midnight Hammer." /CNA
