Hungary's Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, said he has canceled all his "international obligations" as his country is expected to be engulfed by major floods.
Orban, who was expected to speak this week at the European Parliament, said in a social media post that, "due to extreme weather conditions and ongoing flooding... I have postponed all my international obligations."
Rain and flooding have already wreaked havoc in parts of Europe. In Romania, six people were reported dead at the weekend.
The Czech Republic, Austria and Poland reported one death and several missing. Budapest Mayor Gergely Karacsony wrote on Facebook that the worst floods in a decade are expected to hit the city this week.
Emergency crews have filled hundreds of thousands of sandbags to help protect the city from rising water levels in the Danube River.
